About SIAS Global

SIAS Global was founded by Russell F. Schimmer in 2009, when he began his graduate studies. Russell traveled extensively to extractive sites around the world as part of his dissertation research, pursuing a dual degree (J.D. and Ph.D.) and specializing in environmental law and natural resources. As a result of his growing expertise in the geospatial sciences, he worked to develop methods for analyzing and monitoring extractive industries in the context of regulatory and financial systems. Through his multidisciplinary approach, Russell assembled a group of experts who became the core team of senior staff and advisors at SIAS.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL RESOURCE ACTIVITIES?

Essential resource activities cover an extensive range, including mining and processing energy and minerals, managing waste and landfills, agriculture, and managing water resources.

DOES SIAS ONLY DO ADVANCED ANALYTICS OF RESOURCE EXTRACTION SITES?

While SIAS is extremely well versed in evaluating extractive sites, SIAS also evaluates a variety of other essential resource activities including power plants, landfills, and hazardous waste facilities. Additionally, SIAS has years of experience in monitoring and assessing water resources, large-scale agriculture, and pastoralism, as well as resource-development activities almost anywhere in the world.

WHAT TYPES OF COMMODITIES ARE IN THE KAIROS INFORMATION HUB?

There is a long list of mineral commodities in the Kairos Information Hub™. They are grouped under categories such as coal, energy (other energy minerals), mineral (metallic minerals and higher-unit-value industrial minerals), and quarry (lower-unit-value industrial minerals and rocks).

HOW OFTEN IS THE KAIROS INFORMATION HUB UPDATED?

The currency of SIAS data is dependent on the frequency with which regulatory and other relevant data become available, as well as the seasonality and frequency of Advanced Analytics work product. Some collected data and work product are updated monthly and some quarterly, while other data are only updated annually for various reasons or limitations in acquiring primary sourced data.
