In the Kairos Information Hub, a Snapshot, or Site Report, augments information about a specific site in an Overview by using remotely sensed images to qualify and quantify ground features, overall exposure, and recent activities.

A Snapshot provides additional information when an Overview has flagged a site for low regulatory or environmental-performance rankings. A Snapshot takes a much closer look at the site itself from the perspective of satellite-image-based analyses, which both qualifies and quantifies the site's ground features, its overall exposure, and any recent activities and changes to the site, for example, new disturbances or ongoing reclamation. These elements are crucial to developing Cost to Reclaim Estimates (CTRE) and asset evaluations.

A satellite-image-based map shows the locations of different mine features within the permit boundary, as well as in relationship to other relevant features outside the boundary, and breaks the entire site down into four land-cover classes: undisturbed or reclaimed, disturbed, under reclamation, and mixed land cover; and four mine-feature classes: extraction, refuse or facilities, water, and roads and other infrastructure.

A Snapshot further quantifies the number of acres identified under each class and monitors changes in acreage over four sample dates, usually within a 12- to 18-month period. An overall Environmental Permit Rank, which considers land-use and mine-feature classes graphed over time, makes it possible to determine whether the site is becoming increasingly disturbed or under active reclamation.
